LAI participates in the IRP BioPhysImmuno event at UNAM

From 24 to 27 November 2025, members of LAI took part in the online scientific event BioPhysImmuno at UNAM, organized within the framework of the International Research Project (IRP) BioPhysImmuno.

The event brought together students and researchers from UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) and IPN (Instituto Politécnico Nacional), focusing on cellular mechanotransduction and new methodologies for studying cells through biomimetic cell culture chips.

LAI was represented with the participation of Gaurav Varma, Jana El Husseiny, and Marie Dessard as speakers.
In addition, Pierre-Henri Puech, present in Mexico as part of the organizing team, contributed to strengthening scientific and institutional links between France and Mexico.

MiFoBio 2025 – Functional Microscopy for Biology

It was a pleasure for Marie Dessard and Jana El Husseiny to attend the 11th edition of the Thematic School MiFoBio 2025 – Functional Microscopy for Biology, organized by GdR ImaBio.

During the event, Jana El Husseiny presented her PhD project as part of the mini-symposium “Imaging and Physical Measurements, Mechanobiology”, while Marie Dessard presented her work during the poster session, and co-animated a workshop with her co-supervisor at CIML.

The school took place in Seignosse, from October 10 to 17, 2025, and brought together a vibrant community of researchers and industry experts.
This edition featured:

  • 330 participants
  • 14 homemade setups
  • 1 culture room and aquarium
  • 30 industrial microscopy systems
  • 40 industrial partners
  • 12 round tables
  • 1 Scientibus
  • 8 international seminars with 31 lectures
  • 100 hands-on workshops

This intensive and collaborative event fostered discussions and training around the latest advances in functional microscopy and its applications in biology.

CENTURI Scientific Day 2025!

We are pleased to share that Jana El Husseiny presented her work “Unraveling Morphological and Biomechanical Responses to Stressors in Coccidian Oocysts”, and Gaurav Verma gave a flash talk titled “Molecular Geometry Controls Immune Response” at the CENTURI – Turing Centre for Living Systems Scientific Day, held on September 17th at Jardins du Pharo.

The event brought together current members and alumni, fostering networking, idea exchange, and discussions on future perspectives. The day concluded with a convivial cocktail evening at Villa Gaby.

Les Houches: Immunobiophysics EMBO workshop 2025

Building on the success of the virtual (2021) and hybrid (2023) events, the third edition of the hybrid workshop on ImmunoBiophysics: From Fundamental Physics to Understanding the Immune Response took place from 27 April to 2 May 2025 in Les Houches, France.

This year’s workshop focused on immune cell regulation from a distinctly physical and mechanical perspective, with the aim of advancing opportunities for translational impact in human health and disease.

In our laboratory, Pierre-Henri Puech, one of the co-organizers, opened the conference with a foundational talk on immunobiophysics. Philippe Robert was among the invited speakers and delivered a presentation titled “CD16 Transmits Defined Piconewton Forces During Natural Killer Cell Activation.” Our Ph.D. student, Gaurav Verma, also contributed to the event by presenting a poster on his current research project titled “Edit-T-cell Spreading Dynamics Mediated by New Bispecific Agents“.

International Symposium on Cellular Mechanotransduction and Biomimetic Technologies

Tatiana Fiodelisio-Coll (Lansbiodyt, UNAM, Mexico City) and Pierre-Henri Puech (LAI, Marseille) successfully organized the first International Symposium on Cellular Mechanotransduction and Biomimetic Technologies, held on November 19-22, at UNAM. This event was held in the frame of the BioPhysImmuno CNRS IRP, which they co-coordinate.

The symposium featured an impressive lineup of presentations from international experts, spanning the USA, France, the Netherlands, Canada, and Mexico, delivered both in-person and virtually. The event was dynamic and highly engaging, with local students showing great enthusiasm during the Q&A sessions.

Representing LAI, Laurent Limozin and Pierre-Henri Puech presented their pioneering work on immune cell biophysics and mechanotransduction. Additionally, Julien Husson (LaDHyX, Palaiseau) introduced the work of Jana El Husseiny (LAI), highlighting the collaborative nature of this research. The entire symposium was live-streamed on YouTube and recorded for wider accessibility. You can view the sessions here: https://www.youtube.com/live/LwuhOQTNRUU

The French delegation also met with the French Embassy’s scientific delegate to discuss new strategies for strengthening France-Mexico scientific collaboration.

International Congress of Cell Biology in Cancun, Mexico

Laurent Limozin and Pierre-Henri Puech were invited to present their work on the biophysics of immune cells at the International Congress of Cell Biology, in Cancun, Mexico. Representing both the Lab Adhesion and Inflammation (LAI) and the French Cell Biology Society (SBCF), they shared insights into their latest research and engaged in lively discussions with colleagues from Mexico and beyond.

Journées de la Matière Condensée Conference Participation

We are excited to share that Chandrasekar Subramani Narayana represented our lab at the Journées de la Matière Condensée (JMC), held from October 28th to 31st, 2024, in Marseille, France. Chandrasekar presented his poster titled “Kinetic Analysis of Antibody-Antigen Binding with M13 Phage under TIRF Microscopy”, sparking valuable discussions and interest from attendees.

The conference provided a vibrant environment for scientific exchange and collaboration. We are delighted to have participated in this inspiring event and look forward to contributing to future editions.

Celebrating Our Lab’s 30 Years Anniversary!

This October, our lab marked a major milestone with a two-day symposium at the Hexagon Auditorium in Luminy. The event brought together distinguished speakers, alumni, collaborators, and the scientific community to reflect on 30 years of innovation and progress. Attendees enjoyed insightful presentations covering our lab’s research areas and celebrated the collaborative spirit driving our work forward.
