Pierre-Henri Puech, together with Françoise Brochard-Wyart (UPMC) and Pierre Nassoy (CNRS) co-authored a book proposing an educational synthesis of the physico-chemistry of soft matter. This domain, at the interface between physics and chemistry, also called complex fluids or self-organized systems, concerns materials based on liquid crystals, polymers or surfactants that are organized via weak interactions. The founding principles of this discipline are summarized, based on simple arguments inspired by the teaching method of Pierre-Gilles de Gennes, Nobel Prize in Physics in 1991. The extension of these concepts to biological systems also serves as an introduction to modern biophysics. Each concept is illustrated with an example from experiments or industrial applications, as well as the study of biological processes. The book will be available in bookstores and on dunod website from February 28th 2018.

The project “A biophysical study of leucocytes recruitment and its application to Q fever” has been selected for the Interdisciplinary call. It is lead by Marie-Pierre Valignat and involves collaboration with the team of Pr J-L. Mège from Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Marseille.
The project “Selection and application of antibodies under force” has been selected
for the Emergence and Innovation call. It is lead by Laurent Limozin and involves collaboration with the team of Dr P. Chames from Centre de Recherche en Cancérologie de Marseille.
A new master 2 student joined the lab. He will perform his internship under the supervision of Felix Rico. LAI wishes him a warm welcome to the lab!
The ERC Consolidator Grants consist of €630 millions from the EU split among 329 researchers. The funding (maximum of €2 million per grant), is provided for up to five years and mostly covers the employment of researchers and other staff to consolidate the grantees’ teams. More information can be found on: https://erc.europa.eu/node/2653
Congrats Felix!!!
Cristina, Geoffrey, Nicolás and Xuan, PhD students at LAI, participated in the GDR CellTiss meeting at the Centre Paris-Mandres. Cristina presented a 15 min talk and Xuan a poster. Good job guys!
Omar Ndao, Master student in immunology who did his two-month M1 internship fowith O. Theodoly and X. Luo has come back for another 5-month training under the supervision of PH Puech and L. Limozin. Welcome back!
LAI welcomes Geoffrey Delhaye as our latest PhD candidate. Geoffrey will work under the supervision of Olivier Théodoly and Philippe Robert. His PhD project proposes to develop functional substrates, by proteins printing, for diagnostic purposes in clinical immunology. Geoffrey holds a Master of Chemical Sciences from Mons University in Belgium. His previous research topic was about cortical neurons (from rats) growth in controlled geometry. Welcome Geoffrey!
