Microfluidics, cell rheology and medical transfer

The long term effort to develop microfluidic tools to probe the rheological properties of circulating leukocytes has allowed getting new insight in the triggering mechanisms of the acute respiratory distress syndrome. This work, performed in a collaboration with Dr Forel and Pr Papazian from AP-HM has been published in Critical Care:  “The leukocyte-stiffening property of plasma in early acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) revealed by a microfluidic single-cell study: the role of cytokines and protection with antibodies”

Welcome Marie-Julie

Marie-Julie DEJARDIN is doing her Master 2 internship for 6 months, in the frame of the Nice University Imaging Program. She is financially supported by GDR MIV and will work on imaging APC lamellipods with combined AFM and interferometry under the direction of Pierre-Henri Puech and Laurent Limozin.

The project ‘Recrute’ has been awarded by ANR

This project intends to perform quantitative analysis of some essential steps of the leukocyte recruitment cascade using in vitro tools developed at LAI based on microfluidics and protein patterning. The in vitro approach will be based on and compared with in vivo models of T cell traffic in lymph node, T cell response to infection by Bordetella pertussis, and T cell properties of patients with multiple sclerosis. This project is a LAI collaboration with Alveole company (Luc Talini, Romuald Valy), Vincent Studer (IINS, Bordeaux), Claire Hivroz (Institut Curie, Paris) Marc Bajénoff and Jean-Pierre Gorvel (CIML), as well as Philippe Robert and Audrey Ricco (AP-HM).

PhD Defense of Kamel

Mustapha Kamel Khelloufi defended his PhD thesis entitled: “Physics of mucociliary dynamics : device for studying the 3D cell migration : application to asthma and COPD” directed by Annie Viallat. Speciality Biophysics, Physics Doctoral School. The jury was also composed of: Jean-Marc Di Meglio (President), Pierre-Regis Burgel, Olivia Du Roure (Referees), Philippe Le Rouzic, Marc Jaeger, Isabelle Vachier, Pascal Chanez.

Paulin Nègre defended his medical thesis!

Paulin Nègre PhD student and medical resident of LAI obtained his medical thesis  on “Caractérisation quantitative de la migr

ation des leucocytes : applications médicales” (“Quantitative characterization of leukocytes migration : medical applications“). The jury (composed notably of Pierre Bongrand, Olivier Theodoly and Philippe Robert from LAI who wore very folkloric costumes for this occasion) was enthusiastic enough to deliver congratulations and suggest submission of the work for a thesis award!
